Individual & Couples Therapy | Newport Beach, CA
Many people recover from difficult or traumatic experiences with time and the support of the people around them. For others, the effects linger well beyond the event itself, surfacing as persistent fear, emotional pain, or symptoms of posttraumatic stress. This isn’t a matter of strength or resilience — some of the most decorated combat veterans have been diagnosed with PTSD. What it reflects, instead, is the nature of trauma itself: an experience that can overwhelm anyone’s capacity to cope, regardless of character.
Treatment draws on some of the most scientifically well-supported approaches available for trauma-related conditions, including Prolonged Exposure therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy — the two current “gold standard” treatments for PTSD — alongside mindfulness-based and integrative methods suited to the individual. Rather than requiring someone to relive their trauma without support, this work creates a structured, paced process for processing painful memories, reducing avoidance, and rebuilding a sense of safety and control.
The goal isn’t to erase the past, but to loosen its grip on the present — helping clients move from a place of fear, hypervigilance, or emotional numbness toward one of stability, connection, and renewed engagement with life.
