Dr. Seghers incorporates a diverse range of techniques and approaches tailored to the demands of the situation and the unique personal styles of his clients. This affords considerable flexibility. His core training emphasized psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral (CBT) approaches to psychotherapy, as well as humanistic traditions.
In both his clinical work and coaching practice, Dr. Seghers works within a “whole-person” conceptual framework that encompasses thoughts, beliefs, emotions, lifestyle and physical vitality.
As scientific research continues to advance, Dr. Seghers’ practice has been enriched by findings from mindfulness and performance psychology. These offer exciting new tools for addressing difficult problems and achieving long-term life optimization.
Dr. Seghers has practiced counseling and psychotherapy since 2004 and life coaching since 2013. Clinically, he has been affiliated with the Rehabilitation Institute of Southern California, Straight Talk Counseling, Kent State University, Summa Health System (St. Thomas Hospital), and the Cleveland VA Medical Center.
Dr. Seghers has a background in psychological research, where he specialized in the study of stress and mental illness. His doctoral research focused on the relationship between adverse life events and mental health outcomes. He has published and reviewed scientific papers for peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented at international conferences.
In his personal life, Dr. Seghers is an avid photographer, fitness enthusiast, and meditation practitioner. He has been married for 22 years and has two children. Prior to beginning his graduate training in psychology, he worked in the emerging field of online marketing and website development.
